Fiat bets on Autogas as an alternative to diesel
In a context of driving bans for diesel-powered vehicles, Fiat is offering Autogas vehicles as a sustainable alternative. Two additional models are now available in LPG version: the Fiat Panda and the Fiat 500 series, which are bi-fuel equipped from the factory, so they can either run on petrol or LPG. The total range is up to 1,000 kilometres.
Both cars are powered by a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine producing 51 kW (69 horsepower) and receiving the green environmental badge thanks to the Euro 6 emissions standard.
Ride comfort and performance of the two new models are no compromised in the Autogas version. The LPG Fiat Panda is available in the EASY and LOUNGE variants. For the LPG Fiat 500, which is offered exclusively as a sedan, buyers can choose between the POP STAR and LOUNGE versions.
Autogas not only achieves lower emissions than conventional gasoline and diesel engines, but also brings economic benefits due to its low fuel costs. Based on current fuel prices, LPG is less than half the price of Super E10.
In Germany, tax benefits for Autogas have just been extended to at least 2022. Due to the future lower price for LPG, the slightly higher initial outlay on the LPG Panda and 500 is already amortised, compared to the petrol version, with an annual performance of 7,000 to 12,000 kilometres.
